2. Data in the app

Space Journey works without an account. It contains no advertising or integrated tracking or analytics services. Space Journey stores your learning progress and settings locally on your device. The app itself does not transmit this data to me or to third parties. I cannot access the data stored in the app.

On your device, the app stores the start of your journey, unlocked and completed planets, mastered and incorrectly answered questions, current and best answer streaks, whether the streak explanation has been shown, and the last question displayed when a round on each planet was closed early. It also stores your language and sound preferences, your decision about reminders, whether they are enabled, and the chosen number of reminder days. This lets you resume your journey and use your chosen settings.

To the extent this involves personal data, processing provides the app functions you request under Article 6(1)(b) GDPR. The necessary storage on your device is based on section 25(2)(2) of the German TDDDG.

3. Retention and resetting

The app keeps this data locally until you reset it or delete the app together with its data. “Settings → Reset progress” resets your learning progress, including answer streaks. Language, sound and reminder preferences remain and can be changed separately. Offloading the app may retain its data.

Depending on your device settings, app data may be included in device or iCloud backups and restored from them. Resetting the app does not delete existing backups. You manage these through your device or backup settings. I cannot access your backups. See Apple’s information about iCloud Backup.

4. Optional reminders

Reminders are optional. If you enable them in the app and iOS allows delivery, local notifications are scheduled on your device. The app uses your chosen frequency (three or five days a week), language, device time and permission status. The operating system manages scheduled dates and message text on the device. The app does not register for remote notifications or transmit these details to a developer-operated server.

You can switch reminders off in the app’s settings; this removes its pending reminders. You can also disable delivery in iOS Settings under “Notifications → Space Journey”. Your decision and chosen frequency remain stored locally so the app can respect your selection. The learning game also works without reminders.

Where personal data is processed for this purpose, the legal basis is your consent (Article 6(1)(a) GDPR). You may withdraw it for the future by switching reminders off. Storing your selection locally serves the function you request (section 25(2)(2) of the German TDDDG).

5. Website and external links

The supplied website files do not set cookies or use tracking, analytics tools, contact forms or browser storage for user profiles. Fonts come from your device; images and styling are supplied with the website files. Language selection uses separate pages without a language cookie.

The website bybue.com is hosted by STRATO GmbH, Otto-Ostrowski-Straße 7, 10249 Berlin, Germany. STRATO processes the data as a processor on my behalf on servers in Germany.

When you visit the website, the web server necessarily receives your IP address and the request information sent by your browser, such as the page requested, date and time, browser type, operating system and the previously visited page (referrer). This data is needed to deliver the website and to keep it running securely and reliably. According to STRATO, your IP address is anonymised shortly after the connection ends, so the stored access data can no longer be linked to you. The legal basis is my legitimate interest in a functioning and secure website (Art. 6(1)(f) GDPR). This data is not transferred to countries outside the European Economic Area. For more information, see STRATO’s privacy policy.

When you open an external link, the destination provider processes connection data needed to deliver that page, among other data, under its own privacy notice. Opening this website from the app also generates website access data; the app does not attach learning data to the link. An email link opens your email application and does not automatically send a message.

6. Email enquiries

When you make an email enquiry, I process your email address, message, any attachments, technical delivery information and information you voluntarily provide to respond to your enquiry. The legal basis is my legitimate interest in responding to enquiries under Article 6(1)(f) GDPR, or Article 6(1)(b) GDPR for contractual enquiries. A contact method is required to provide a response. Contacting me is not required to use the app.

Messages are deleted once the enquiry is resolved and they are no longer needed for follow-up questions. Where statutory retention obligations apply, or further retention is necessary to establish or defend legal claims, the necessary data is retained for that purpose.

The contact address uses Apple’s iCloud Mail. The email service processes messages and technical delivery information. Apple identifies Apple Distribution International Limited, Hollyhill Industrial Estate, Hollyhill, Cork, Ireland, for people in the European Economic Area. Apple states that processing may take place in the United States and other countries and cites Standard Contractual Clauses for international transfers from the EEA. Information and copies of these safeguards can be requested through Apple’s privacy contact. See Apple’s privacy policy.

7. Your rights

Subject to the statutory conditions, you have rights of access, rectification, erasure, restriction of processing and data portability. You may object to processing based on legitimate interests for reasons relating to your particular situation. You may withdraw consent at any time for the future, without affecting the lawfulness of processing before withdrawal.

You may also complain to a data protection authority, particularly in the EU member state where you live or work or where an alleged infringement occurred. For privacy questions or to exercise your rights, contact me at the email address above. I cannot access learning data stored exclusively on your device.

The supervisory authority for Schleswig-Holstein is the Independent Centre for Data Protection Schleswig-Holstein (ULD). You do not have to contact me first in order to lodge a complaint.

8. Apple services and the App Store

When you download or update the app through the App Store, Apple processes data as an independent controller, including Apple Account, device and download information. This is separate from Space Journey’s local learning functions. See Apple’s App Store privacy notice.

Depending on your sharing permissions, Apple may collect diagnostic and usage information and provide developers with aggregated or non-personally identifiable reports. Space Journey does not contain its own analytics tool. You can manage “Share With App Developers” under “Privacy & Security → Analytics & Improvements”. See Apple’s app analytics notice.

9. Children and parents

Children do not need to provide a name, date of birth or contact details to play. The described learning records stay in the app on the device; there are no public profiles or chat. Support enquiries should include only information needed to resolve the issue. Parents or guardians can contact the address above and manage local data through the app or device settings.

10. Automated decisions

There are no automated decisions producing legal or similarly significant effects within the meaning of Article 22 GDPR. Local question selection and planet unlocking serve only the gameplay.

11. Changes

This policy will be updated if the app, website or data processing changes. The revision date appears at the top of this page.
